I have been with Esperanza Therapy for 1 year and 10 months.
What work/volunteer experiences do you have?
I used to volunteer for Family Heath Care network, Woodalke High School Special Aide Department, Speech Pathways, Esperanza Therapy Materials/outreach, and Christmas Drive.
What do you find most rewarding about being in this field?
This job is rewarding in general. I love that I am making an impact not only to their every day lives now, but to their futures. I love when I teach my client new concepts and they learn and apply them. Those accomplishments are by far the best. I remember my very first client. He was non verbal and after about a month he began to say words. That was really cool, but the best of all was when he
said mom for the first time. His mom was so happy and it made me feel so happy. This impact is not only changing lives of the clients, but also the parents and us. They make a difference in my life every-
day.
What makes working at Esperanza Therapy Services different than other work experiences?
What makes working at Esperanza Therapy Services different than other work experiences?
Working at Esperanza is different because most everyone here makes you feel like you are part of a team. No matter what your request is they try as best as they can to suit your needs. They want you to
feel as you are part of their family.
What is the toughest challenge you have ever faced?
I worked with a 16 year old client who had extreme aggression. His aggression was bad that he would sometimes even be sent to the hospital. I remember going to my very first session and we were working perfectly fine and then all of a sudden he gets up and starts charging at his caregiver. At that point I can either get in between and block or let him keep up the aggression even though it was hurting him. This was all he needed help with so my day consisted of working with things he can do and making sure he didn’t fight and if he did I had to just block him or get in between him and caregiver.
What is one word that describes you and why?
I would say that one word to describe me is altruistic. This describes me because I care so much about helping others find the best in themselves. I literally can not see a person being sad because it breaks my heart. I've always felt like everyone has a positive thing about them they just need to find it. No matter how much I dislike a person I find a way to like them because I know they have one positive
trait about them. Close friends and family of mine have always said "you care so much for people that sometimes you forget about yourself." I tell them, "I am caring for myself, helping others is the best way to be happy. Its like a medicine." That's why when I found this job i knew this was a perfect place for me.
What are some of your personal hobbies and interests?

I still play soccer competitively and tennis. I also love painting. That is one of the things I do when I am stressed. My hidden talent is dancing. small choreography company in my home town while I was in high school.
